As Halloween approaches, it’s time to get into the spooky spirit—and that includes our furry friends! Your pooch may not be able to indulge in Halloween candy with you, but that doesn’t mean they should miss out on the Halloween fun. Here are a few simple and dog-safe recipes for Halloween-themed goodies that are sure to put you and your pup in the Halloween spirit.

Frozen Candy Corn Treats

These three-ingredient treats make a delicious and festive frozen snack for your pup. Each layer of this treat provides your pup with nutrition; the Greek yogurt contains protein and probiotics, pumpkin contains healthy fiber and beta-carotene, and bananas contain plenty of potassium and vitamins. Make sure you buy plain canned pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling, which can have harmful additives. To make this recipe, you’ll need a piping bag, mixing bowls, and some patience while waiting for each layer to freeze. You’ll also need a silicone baking mold in a Halloween shape of your choice or a fun dog bone mold.

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 5 tbsp of Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp of plain canned pumpkin

Directions:

  1. Add 3 tbsp of Greek yogurt to your piping bag. You can also use a plastic ziploc and snip the corner off.
  2. Pipe the yogurt into an even layer on the bottom of about six mold cups. You’ll want this layer to be about 1/4 inch thick. Then, freeze for 1-2 hours.
  3. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add 2 tbsp of canned pumpkin and 1 tbsp of Greek yogurt. Mix these ingredients until they’re fully combined.
  4. Add the pumpkin mixture to the piping bag and pipe an even layer onto the frozen layer. It should be the same thickness as the first layer. Freeze for another 1-2 hours.
  5. Mash a banana up with a fork in another mixing bowl. Then, add the remaining 1 tbsp of Greek yogurt and mix. Add this mixture to a piping bag and pipe the final layer on top.
  6. Freeze the treats for 1-2 hours or until fully frozen. Then, serve them to your pup!

Boo-berry Treats

These three-ingredient boo-berry dog treats are easy to make and scarily good for your pup. Peanut butter is well-loved by many dogs and contains healthy fats and protein, and pumpkin is an excellent source of fiber and vitamins. Additionally, blueberries are a canine-safe superfood that has anti-aging and cancer-fighting properties. To make these healthy and tasty treats, you’ll need a mixing bowl and some festive silicone baking molds.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of plain canned pumpkin
  • ½ cup of peanut butter (make sure it doesn’t contain Xylitol)
  • 1 cup of clean blueberries

Directions:

  1. Combine the pumpkin and peanut butter in a mixing bowl.
  2. Once this mixture is thoroughly combined, add in the blueberries. Make sure you wash the blueberries thoroughly ahead of time.
  3. Press the biscuit mixture into a silicone baking mold of your choice.
  4. Freeze for three hours, then let your pup enjoy! This recipe makes about 18 treats, which you can store in the freezer and let Fido enjoy all Halloween season long.

Orange & Purple Sweet Potato Treats

These four-ingredient treats are adorably festive and easy to make. Although most sweet potatoes that you’re familiar with are orange, there are also purple sweet potatoes that are equally yummy! If you’re able to get your hands on a purple sweet potato, you can make two batches of this recipe to have festive purple and orange Halloween treats. Regardless of which kind of sweet potato you use, these treats are guaranteed to be a fan favorite among your furry friends.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups of oat flour (you can make your own by blending old-fashioned oats in a food processor)
  • 1/4 cup of unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 tbsp of peanut butter (make sure it doesn’t contain Xylitol)
  • 3/4 cup of mashed purple or orange sweet potato

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Then, gather your supplies.
  2. Peel and slice your sweet potato and place it in a pot with boiling water. After 15 minutes, remove the sweet potato and mash it up with a fork.
  3. Combine the oat flour, applesauce, peanut butter, and mashed sweet potato in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Then, pop your dough in the fridge for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Roll out your chilled dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Grab your favorite Halloween-themed cookie cutters to cut out the dough and lay them on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
  5. Bake your pumpkin treats for 22-25 minutes or until they’re firm and slightly brown on the bottom. Once they’ve cooled, let Fido enjoy!
