Sometimes we find it hard to get in everything we need to each day: exercise, time with the pup, cooking dinner, work, and anything else you need to get done. It can be daunting. Lucky for you, it’s possible to combine exercise and your dog. Let’s look at some ideas that could help you both get a little exercise and increase your bond together.
Hikes
Most areas have many options when it comes to taking Fido on an outdoor adventure. Check out your local state parks and see what hikes they have to offer. Be sure to select a trail that accommodates both you and your dog’s abilities. Maybe don’t take him on a steep path if he has joint problems.
Take Calls Outside
If you’re working from home, or maybe even your pooch comes to the office with you, try taking your calls outside. If it’s a video conference, just being outside provides stimulation for your furry companion that an office or home just doesn’t supply. There are more sights and smells that can keep them intrigued while you sit on your call. If your meeting doesn’t require a video conference, consider walking as you talk. Who knows, maybe pumping that oxygen will stir up your next great idea!
Run
Running sprints is a very effective way to condition, boost fat loss, and increase overall fitness. Most dogs love to sprint too! Whether you’re chasing him or he’s chasing you, you will be less likely to notice how long you’ve been running and how tired you might be. You’ll both actually enjoy the exercise.
Get in a Dog Park Workout
It’s easy to just sit around while your dog get his exercise at the dog park. With other dogs around, there is plenty to do. Maybe some of the other dogs would enjoy your sprint game too! Of course, there’s always traditional exercise you can do. You might get some funny looks but hey, the world is your gym!
Explore the Water
Water adventures might be a whole new world of stimulation for your pup, and a new exercise world for you! If your dog is new to the water game, ease them in slowly. They may be the swimmer who wants to do their own thing, or the rider who wants to stick with you on your paddle-board or kayak.
HIT
High-intensity interval training, otherwise known as HIT workouts, are great for using your own bodyweight to exercise at home. If your pup gets hyped up about you jumping around, you might find yourself laughing your way through squats, burpees, and planks.
Stairs
Stairs are simple and almost everywhere. Walk, run, or jump up and down them with your furry friend to get a great workout that will work up quite the sweat.
Stretch
Stretching is an important part of building strength and flexibility. Whether you’re doing yoga or just stretching on the floor, there’s a chance your dog will rollover for some belly rubs while you get your stretching done.
These are just a few examples of what you can do with your pup that at the very least increases your bond and gives you a workout. Is your dog not very cooperative and needs some behavior help? Contact us and we will see how we can help you two go on more adventures together!
